Takeshi Morishima v. Bryan Danielson (Ring of Honor Manhattan Mayhem II) 8/25/07
To start off simply: this match is very, very good. That fact isn't particularly surprising considering its participants, but still.
By 2007, a very strong case could be made for Bryan Danielson being the best wrestler in North America, if not the world. He had reigned as ROH World Champion for 15 months with thirty-eight defenses, from late 2005 to late 2006, and already had a long list of superb defenses under his belt, most notably against rival Nigel McGuinness. Along the way he unified and retired the PURE Championship, main-evented multiple shows, and became a mainstay of the promotion. But, once his reign came to an end at the hands of Homicide at Final Battle, Danielson took time off from wrestling to recover from injuries sustained throughout his reign. It wouldn't be until May of 2007 when the American Dragon would return, but when he did, he quickly returned to form. Staking his claim at the gold he once held, Danielson teamed with then ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima in a winning effort against rival Nigel McGuinness and NOAH star KENTA at ROH's first pay-per-view event, Respect is Earned. At the following PPV, Driven, Danielson again defeated Nigel in a match to determine a #1 Contender for Morishima's title.
That brings us to the champion himself. Morishima came to ROH from Pro Wrestling NOAH, and the heavyweight soon became world champion after defeating Homicide on February 17th, only 56 days after Homicide had taken the belt from Danielson. He went on a tear as champion, holding off some of ROH's best in clashes for the gold, including Jay Briscoe, Roderick Strong, Austin Aries, Claudio Castagnoli, Jimmy Rave, Adam Pearce, and BJ Whitmer, along with defeating fellow NOAH talent KENTA and Dragon Gate star Shingo Takagi in title action. While these defenses were all certainly interesting, many of which resulted in great matches, there was one challenger who stood out from the rest; Nigel McGuinness. The once cocky, cheap-shot taking heel had progressed and matured into one of the promotion's top babyfaces, and made it his goal to usurp Morishima from his spot at the top. It's here we see a shared parallel between the title reigns of Bryan Danielson and Takeshki Morishima. Both champions repeatedly clash with and defeat Nigel, and Bryan's return to the company from injury only further pushes Nigel away from the title. After multiple failed attempts, McGuinness would attempt to earn one more crack at the champion by facing Bryan at Driven in a #1 Contenders Match, a match he would lose. This sets the stage for where we are now.
August 25th, 2007. The Manhattan Center in New York. Ring of Honor is running its second show under the Manhattan Mayhem name, and in the co-main event, Bryan Danielson challenges Takeshi Morishima for the ROH World Championship. The American Dragon looks to reclaim his spot at the top, while Morishima attempts to fully establish himself a dominant champion by defeating one of the best champions in company history.
"David vs. Goliath" is perhaps an overused analogy, but it's fitting for this particular encounter. Morishima is 6'3; Danielson is only 5'10. Throughout most of his career Morishima hovered around 270-290 lbs.; Danielson is typically billed around 210. Of course, being the smaller man in the match isn't anything new to the Dragon. Some of Bryan's best performances come against opponents much larger than him; Brock Lesnar, Samoa Joe, Miro, etc. In the first half of the match, Danielson is undoubtedly the David. He tries to stay away from the champion, landing precise kicks to the legs in an attempt to chop him down. Keeping his instance is a sound strategy, as Morishima takes advantage of his strength, hitting Bryan with stiff strikes and lariats, trying to wear his opponent down early through power and fury. The constant strikes to the head lead to what appears to be Bryan selling an eye injury - the thing is, he's not selling. Danielson legitimately suffered a detected retina in the match and continued wrestling, even incorporating his injury into the match. Morishima targets the head, taking full advantage of Bryan's eye which, again, is actually hurt. Morishima himself sells damage to his legs, unable to lift Danielson up for certain power moves and having his mobility limited.
The first half of the match is definitely an uphill battle for the American Dragon, but the second half is a different story. Danielson counters much of the champion's offense, locking in multiple submissions including his signature Cattle Mutilation. He's even able to hit his signature stomps and elbow strikes, brutalizing the champion and nearly turning his size advantage into a non-factor. He even gets close calls with multiple roll-ups that almost finish it. The killer instinct the challenger possesses flips the script late in the match, leaving Morishima on the ropes and repeatedly fighting from behind. Still, the champion fights back, still able to overpower Danielson with lariats and hip attacks before finally planting him with a backdrop driver to end the match and defend his gold. Danielson fights hard. He came close to taking the gold, but Morishima's imposing size advantage just couldn't be overcome. It's a simple story, but a very well-told one.
The eye injury Danielson suffers early on could've ruined the match, but he doesn't crumble. He perseveres and uses it to tell a story. Danielson fighting with only one eye, Morishima fighting on one leg. Neither man is at 100% for much of the match, which creates a hard hitting back-and-forth battle that exemplifies what made Ring of Honor so special in this era.

The lipless crankbait is a staple in most angler's Spring bass fishing arsenal, but very few understand the late-season effectiveness of the blade bait. Both options can produce incredible results in Spring and you should fish them with confidence.
Today we're heading down the rabbit hole of lipless and blade baits. Matt begins with a surface level approach, recommending a couple baits for all-around success, but it doesn't take long before we're looking at niche baits, detailed color analysis, and in-depth descriptions of how big bass stage in Spring.
With an almost endless list of baits in today's video we're using the video description to simplify the selections. Below you'll find links to our favorite all-around baits, our favorite baits by depth, and our favorite gear to throw them. We've included favorite colors, hook upgrades, and more. Tested: Get Your Flair on With an Accessorized 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Tumblr media
Here is one rolling argument for making the Camaro your own.
LOS ANGELES—First things first: I'm pretty sure no one, not even Chevrolet, expects you to buy a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS like the one I took possession of for this test-drive review. Chevy built this car to show off a gaggle of the dealer-installed options it sells so buyers can really make their Camaro their own special thing. But this 2020 Camaro SS test car carried $17,655 worth of such accessories, and I doubt anyone would go that crazy on parts. Though if you're the type that would, please drop me an email. I'm dying to meet you.
I won't give you the full list of those add-on parts here—I'll do that down below at the end of the story, in case you're that hungry to see it and need to skip ahead now—but I will tell you the accessories ranged from functional (Brembo brakes, $3,645; lowering kit, $1,970; upgraded anti-roll bars, $805) to form-enhancing (racing stripes, $625 and $450; carbon-fiber shift knob, $150; black fuel door with carbon-fiber insert, $280).
2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS Test: Making It Your Own Such accessories are an important factor in the auto business: They're profit centers for General Motors and its dealerships. As for the buyer, perhaps they can get a better deal on the aftermarket, but buying through Chevrolet has its advantages.
First off, you can roll the accessories into your financing; also, they are covered under the car's warranty; and finally, installation quality should be good, since the dealership has the expertise (in theory) on how to get the cars apart and back together. And if the dealer does it wrong, we refer to you that part about the warranty.
Personally, I thought my Camaro SS looked pretty bitchin' with all the add-on swag. Okay, I could do without the giant carbon-fiber spoiler, borrowed directly from the Camaro ZL1 1LE and the most expensive add-on at $5,495. Chevrolet calls it a "visible carbon-fiber spoiler," which I assume refers to the exposed carbon-fiber weave—still, the name made me wonder how much Chevy charges for the invisible one, and how much downforce it produces.
But I liked everything else—the ground-effects kit, red and black stripes, and those big red Brembo brake calipers. I even dug the metal pedals and the embossed floor mats. I must be turning into a dealer shill in my old age.
2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS Test: Muscle Car Theater It's been ages since I've driven a Camaro, and I was happy to be back behind the wheel, even if it meant I couldn't see much of the world outside through the gun-slit windows. The Camaro's 455-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 is everything it's cracked up to be, a bellowing beast always up for a good time. My tester had the $995 dual-mode performance exhaust which perfects the soundtrack. In terms of power and fury and noise, Chevrolet has the 2020 Camaro SS so well dialed-in, it could probably capture the experience and sell it in bottles.
Though the 10-speed automatic has been around for a little while, this was my first time trying it, and my experience was marred somewhat by the paddle shifters. Response was all over the place: Sometimes the transmission shifted as soon as I hit the paddle, and other times I felt like I was waiting on the Chevrolet's electronic bureaucracy to process my request, which I had apparently made in writing and sent third-class mail via riverboat. (For the record, I saw more immediate response from the push-buttons in the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban I drove recently.)
I thought the transmission did a much better job when left to shift on its own, but can I really say that with any authority? The 6.2 has so much torque, it's just not possible to be in the wrong gear. Chevrolet could probably fit an old THM-400 three-speed automatic to this engine and it'd still maintain its ability to ra-arrange your internal organs with a mere tap of the accelerator.
2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS Test: Do Accessories Help Or Hinder The Handling? As for the handling, well, it's hard to say. In some of the sharper, lower-speed turns, I found the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS used for this test had a tendency to understeer on turn-in (which could be a factor of the "upgraded" anti-roll bars, or merely the fault of my own impatience). Alright, no problem—ease off of the accelerator to let the front end bite. But if I got back on the power too quickly, the rear tires would break loose. (That 455 lb-ft is a mixed blessing.) You have to be judicious with all of the power, which I'm told is the way the world generally works. On the other hand, if I didn't have to ease off the power in the first place, I could get out of the corners much more neatly.
The Camaro felt happier in faster corners, perhaps because I wasn't as close to the tires' limit of adhesion, but at higher speeds the car hits the bumps a lot harder. That was a constant problem, even in more relaxed driving: The Camaro's ride was unusually busy and bouncy, and while it did cushion the bumps rather nicely, I know these roads well and don't recall there being quite so many of them.
The bottom line here is that GM's chassis engineers do wonderful work, particularly with rear-wheel-drive performance cars. Messing with success only ends in tears, and I think the modified Camaro I drove proves that. Is it worth upsetting the Camaro's handling balance to give it that cool ground-hugging look? That's up to the prospective buyer.
2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS Test: Should You Accessorize? And that brings us, quite neatly, back to the first premise of our story, all those dealer-installed accessories. Do they make the Camaro a better car? Obviously, chucking everything you find in the pantry into a single pot will never make the ideal meal, but selective use of ingredients can yield something really great.
The point Chevrolet tried to make with this car, I believe, is that if you want to customize and individualize your Camaro, you needn't leave the comfort of your dealer's showroom. I am inclined to agree. None of the accessories on my test car rattled or buzzed. Everything fit nicely. I'm sure somewhere in the parts catalog it says, "Engineered by GM to fit your GM car," or something to that effect, and if it doesn't, it should.
As for the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS, well, what else can I say? It's an over-powered, hairy-chested handful of a car, and long may it ride. In its unmolested form, I think its handling betters Dodge's Challenger, though the latter is easier to see out of (as are most things, including windowless rooms). Personally, I prefer the Ford Mustang GT for its tidier dimensions—provided you fit it with the V-8, that is. (The EcoBoost four is a great engine, but give me that V-8 rumble any day.) I find it just as much fun and potent as the Chevy, sort of the scrawny-but-cut street fighter versus the mountain-sized bouncer that is the Camaro.
At the end of the day, no matter how you accessorize it, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS delivers all the muscle-car theater you could possibly ask for. And if you ask for more, Chevy is happy to have your local dealer install it.
2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS Dealer-Installed Accessories As-Tested Visible carbon-fiber spoiler, ZL1 1LE spec, $5,495 Four-corner Brembo caliper brake-upgrade system in red, six-piston front, four-piston rear, $3,645 Carbon flash metallic ground effects, $2,250 Suspension-lowering kit, $1,970 Anti-roll bar suspension-upgrade system, $805 Black metallic stinger stripe, $625 Red spider stripes, $450 Painted engine cover, $545 2 strut tower brace, $395 Red knee pads for center console, $350 Black fuel door with exposed carbon-fiber insert, $290 Premium carpeted floor mats with Camaro logo, $160 Sport pedals, $155 All-weather cargo mat, $155 Carbon-fiber appearance shifter knob for auto transmission, $150 Black Camaro fender badge, $145 Cargo net, $70 Total dealer-installed accessories: $17,655
2020 Chevrolet Camaro Pros All the sound and fury you could want from a modern-day muscle car Good fun to drive in the curves—judiciously Nice selection of accessories to make it your own 2020 Chevrolet Camaro Cons You can't see well out of it Suspension "upgrades" alter a basically good ride-handling balance บาคาร่า

2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vs. 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Comparison: Power Down
Do you ever wonder where this is all going to end? More power, bigger wings, better aero, fatter tires. Remember when the ’90s Porsche 911 Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hit 400 horsepower? We thought we were all going to die. Yet now we’re close to doubling that. What hath the demon seed of technology wrought?
With such existential theorizing in mind, we present the ever-rising top of the upward spiral: the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with ZTK package and the 2018 Porsche GT2 RS Weissach Edition.
As a result of my long racing career and introduction to the inner workings of Porsche Motorsport when I had a factory contract, plus my 10 seasons of track testing with Motor Trend, I have followed firsthand with interest and wonder the twists and turns of this steady progression of technology and performance.
These supercars are the highest evolution of their own long lineages and make claim to being at the top of the aforementioned spiral in the entire major automaker universe, as well.
Let’s start with the ZR1, because ’Murica! Today’s ’Vette is the last of the C7 generation, created directly out of the C6, tracing its history back to the 2005 model year. The standard engine then was the 6.0-liter LS2, rated at 400 hp, later upping to 430 with the 6.2-liter LS3. In response to the ever-swelling output of its American V-10 rival Dodge Viper, the C6 ZR1 fired a major salvo in the dyno wars with its 638-horse supercharged Blower-Under-Glass (with see-through hood bulge). A couple years later came the Z06, with 650 horses and a strong tendency to overheat—both the engine’s vital fluids and the intake air temps—when driven at pro speeds on track (something I discovered on my first three laps at a Road Atlanta press day). This track-oriented model was simply not ready for prime time, though it’s true that more conservative owners were able to successfully track their Z06s at a milder pace.
This leads us to the latest ZR1 and its top-dawg 755-hp LT5. The challenge for the Corvette team was to simultaneously improve the speed and the cooling of the Z06/Z07 we know and love. Tough task, because those two goals pull the needle in opposite directions. More power equals more heat. To address this, five new radiators have been added, resulting in far better cooling. On track, temps still get warm, but during my time at the wheel, the needles never speared the red zones.
Compare that to the Porsche GT2 RS. Right up front, it’s more than twice as much moolah—if you can find one to buy. But it’s also a new pinnacle in the long and brilliant history of the 911. For 15 years, I was up to my ears racing them. I started racing just as the water-cooled cars were coming to market. With far superior control of engine temperatures and four-valves-per-cylinder breathing, the 996 made far more power than the venerable fan-and-fin-cooled flat-sixes.
But a funny thing happened. After years of working so hard to reduce the famous oversteering tendencies of the rear-engine 911—culminating with my now second-favorite 911 chassis to drive, the 993—the oversteer was back. The 996 was twitchy and loose and dicey. New generation, back to the drawing board. I raced with both versions on my teams at Alex Job Racing and with Greg Fordahl Motorsports in the early 2000s, and I saw how the old 993 RSR would kill the new 911 GT3 R in the corners with stable, usable grip but get smoked down the straights by the newer car’s four-valve urge and slick, low-drag aero.
Why the history lesson? To explain why I’m so excited about the new GT2 RS. It’s the first 911 since 1999 that truly takes advantage of its rearward weight distribution and turns its copious torque into acceleration. It’s my hope that this will be the new paradigm.
The GT2 RS makes more power than any factory 911 before it. “Big deal,” you say. “We’ve had 911 Turbos for years, and they’ve been gradually evolving through 400, 500, 600 horsepower, and they’re fine. Nothing new.” Wrong, Bratwurst Breath. This most-potent-ever 911 is two-wheel drive. The real magic of this machine is its ability to send 553 lb-ft of torque (214 more than the awesome GT3) to just the rear tires and turn it into acceleration—not wheelspin and tire smoke—without the added complexity and weight of all-wheel drive.
That prodigious power propels the GT2 RS forward, not sideways in a drifting burnout (unless your name is Jethro Bovingdon). This first-order priority of a winning racer in this ultimate performance street car earns my respect and admiration. OK, and love. (I’m confident enough in my masculinity to express those four letters toward a relatively inanimate object.)
With such devotions spoken, let’s see what happens when we let slip the dogs of war.
The Corvette’s great technological step forward is the way it never lost output from the boosted LT5 V-8. Unlike its predecessor, this ZR1 pulled hard the whole session. Credit this advancement to the 52 percent larger Eaton supercharger and more efficient intercoolers. However, the 755 horses in the ZR1 never seemed to quite pull like those of the GT2 RS and others in the 700 Club during our Best Driver’s Car testing—both in the quarter mile and at the top end.
At our World’s Greatest Drag Race, I had the unmitigated pleasure to floor both cars down Vandenberg Air Force Base’s pristine 3-mile-long landing strip to achieve my own personal land speed record of 200-plus in the GT2 RS. By comparison, the ’Vette lagged behind, time after time, even without the ZTK package’s high wing. With similar top speed claims, what gives? I can only report faithfully what mine eyes have seen and hypothesize that the intercooling is perhaps still not enough to keep up, because internet dyno tests do seem to support the 755-hp estimate.
Hot-lapping at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca showed similar results on the front straight. The GT2 RS reached a heady 149.0 mph, but the ZR1 made only 141.6. All of that cannot be explained away with a better corner exit. That’s simply too big a spread. Some of those Chevy horses weren’t pulling their weight.
But enough about straight-line fury. What happens when the wheel is cranked into Turn 1? In my world, the gods live in the corners anyway (although I must admit, even straight ahead gets interesting once you’ve crossed the double century). At Laguna, Turn 1 is a gentle left bend over a rise. It’s been an easy flat in nearly every car I’ve driven there over the years—until the big-hitter street cars started approaching 140 over that crest. They’d get light, even get some fifth-gear wheelspin, and track far right in a hurry. The bend is a genuine corner at those velocities, with a late apex, and straightening up the steering becomes a necessity to remain on the pavement. Ten years ago, the last-gen ZR1 was the first car that forced my right foot to feather back, for fear of disaster on the landing.
Well, this year the ZR1 once again achieved the highest Corvette speed ever over that yump, but it stuck the landing easily. The ZTK aero proved effective there and at several other fast corners around the circuit. It’s not race car levels of downforce, but it’s significant for a street machine. Unusually, the higher the corner speed, the better behaved the ZR1. On track, most cars are the other way around: Faster means dicier. When I set the lap record at Road Atlanta in the new ZR1 on a Chevy press day, the car was stable and hooked up in the high-speed Turn 12 and dropping into the esses, which is critical to a quick time there. I mean really well behaved.
This leads us to the Corvette’s great downfall: low-speed traction—which is also the reason for the history lesson. When power was under 500, the chassis could handle it, but as the Z-series cars pushed it over 600—and with the ZR1 now cresting 750—the rear suspension is overwhelmed. High-powered ’Vettes are diabolically prone to snap power oversteer in the lower gears. The wonderful additional ponies in the ZR1 make it even worse.
True story: I kicked out the ZR1’s tail on a deserted side street, and it ripped the wheel from my hands so hard I reinjured a torn rotator cuff. Brutal. In these cars, the driver had best leave the multimode traction and stability controls activated.
This handling issue is nothing new. Chevy has never solved the perennial problem of the rear suspension not putting power down well or the general fright-inspiring twitchiness of the rear end. It frustrates me, and it holds the ’Vette back from its far greater ultimate potential. The unruly and untrustworthy rear grip makes the car a wild ride in first through third gears, which means in most corners. The Motor Trend notebook is rife with editor remarks about it. It’s a thrill and an adrenaline rush, sure, but not exactly for the right reasons (fear and terror being culprits cited by some pretty veteran scribes).
The Z06 was always a wrestling match to drive at the limit on track, and the additional 100 horsepower makes it even more so, except that the ZR1 is much improved at high speeds. The situation reminds me a lot of the Viper: It’s always been a real handful, and its engineers seemed to just accept it as part of the car’s masculine personality—until they miraculously, completely cured it with the ACR model in the last year of production.
Would that Team Corvette could have finished with the same flourish. The armchair engineer in me suggests rear geometry; perhaps it has too much anti-squat. The reason? I’ve tried all manner of factory shock settings, year by year, and none seem to cure it. It can help, though. For the Z06/7 and the Grand Sport, I recommend placing the suspension settings to Sport rather than Track. Yet the ZR1’s damping package feels softer on all settings than the Z06’s, especially in Race shock mode. It’s great for comfort but still doesn’t tame that nervous twitch. Some drivers, especially talented ones, actually prefer a twitchy turn-in, so perhaps Corvette’s dynamics team likes it this way. But I don’t. Like I said in my Twitter war regarding the pre-ACR Viper a couple years back, bad-handling cars scare me. I don’t want to work that hard, and in a well-balanced sports car, I don’t have to.
Not all my venom is directed at Chevrolet, though, which means it’s time for my official Porsche Motorsport rant. I spent a lot of time on track in 996 versions of the 911, and it was always a challenge to get good traction accelerating out of a turn. Our archrival BMW seemed to be as good or better, but with a front engine. That didn’t make sense. But I felt the 911’s tail wanting to snap loose if I wasn’t careful about the throttle. Interestingly, it seemed like the more racy the 911, the worse it behaved, especially in the last eight years. The Motorsports department seemed to like pointy oversteer.
But why? My hypothesis: Perhaps their Werksfahrers—young superstars who grew up karting—do their test-driving. Karts have a solid axle, no differential. If the driver doesn’t kick it sideways, it understeers like crazy.
I figure the Werksfahrers bring this psychology over to the big cars, because that’s just how they felt. At least, that’s how the factory cars felt when I raced them. For years, I’ve felt that the basic street Porsches were the best-balanced and that the closer it got to Porsche Motorsport, the worse the cars handled and the more they oversteered. Some consider that sporty, lively. I consider it unnecessary. Three recent cars with which I am intimate—the 911 GT America for the IMSA GTD-class a few years ago and the 991-era GT3 Cup cars, both the 991.1 and the current 991.2were difficult to drive fast. They were dicey, quite spinnable, and spooky. Not what a customer-racer needs.

The bite is on fire!! Come along for a morning of bass fishing on Clearlake like we all dream about! Matt is throwing a glide bait and a blade bait and the fishing is incredible! Bass are schooling up before the spawn and this school is feeding heavily on small baitfish. Once Matt dials in the blade bait cadence, the fish start biting on every cast!
Many anglers overlook the effectiveness of lipless crankbaits and blade baits fished slowly along the bottom in Spring. They throw blade baits in Winter but they put them away as the water warms up in Spring. With newer baits like the Megabass Dyna Response and Damiki Vault coming to the market, blade bait season has extended all the way through the Spring. Its a great addition to your lipless crankbait arsenal to ensure you're catching the maximum number of fish when you locate schooling fish.
Today's video revolves around two baits. Matt's first fish came on the Baitsanity Antidote glide bait, the rest fell for the Megabass Dyna Response 1/2 oz in Ito Hiuo. Keep in mind, when the bite is on, you don't have to have 50 different baits on deck to catch fish. You simply need to put the time in, learn from the clues you're getting on the water, and adapt with the conditions.
Below you'll find links to the exact baits Matt was using as well as the gear he fished to keep those fish pinned all the way to the boat. Notice how few of his fish got off, despite fishing a heavy blade bait with small trebles on long casts. Using the right gear is key! All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.
Below the gear links you'll find time stamps for the video so you can jump between key fish catches if you'd like. However, this may be the one full-length video you want to watch straight through because as the bite heats up, its EVERY CAST!

The Sound and Fury: NHRA in Sonoma
It was time to slap on the nitromethane cologne as the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series returned to Sonoma for the 2018 Sonoma Nationals.  It was a our third straight visit to this event and while we tried to resist the call, we've been hooked on the noise and power since our first visit.    Racing history is replete with examples of the explorers of speed seeking that little bit extra out of a car. According to the founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman it was to  “Simplify, then add lightness.”  For the late American Racing legend Dan Gurney it was the Gurney Flap and its provision of downforce that finds that extra length of second.  On the other end of the spectrum, NHRA Drag racing is has a simpler philosophy…ADD MORE POWER!  The numbers behind Top Fuel Dragsters are ridiculous:
Top Fuel Dragsters are the product of a deviant mind.  Tie down a 10,000 horsepower ill-tempered dragon on a frame shaped like a needle, and have at it.  The stats are incomprehensible:
One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic-inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500.
Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitromethane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.
With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.
Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.
Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F.
If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitromethane builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.
In order to exceed 300 MPH in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4 G’s. In order to reach 200 MPH well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8 G’s.
Tony Schumacher has the fastest official speed in Top Fuel history with a 336.57 mph run at 3.667 seconds at the NHRA Arizona Nationals (2018).
Source
It really is hard to describe a Top Fuel dragster without seeing in person. It's not just the speed, but all the sensory overkill that can only be found at the strip.
The other class of dragster that makes enough noise and fire to vaporize your bones are the Funny Cars.  There are different in that rather than the needle-like chassis of a Top Fuel Car with a warhead strapped to it, they have a fiberglass or carbon fiber body over a custom chassis which makes them look a little like a car you might find on the road...if that road were from a Mad Max movie.
The Funny Cars put up numbers just shy of Top Fuel Dragsters.  Horsepower is estimated to be around 8,000 HP, with about 7,000 ft-lb of torque achieving 6gs of acceleration from a standing start.
Another California native, Robert Hight topped the Funny Car category with a 3.984 second 319.75 run.  Hight spent years as a fan then joined the team becoming a clutch specialist for John Force Racing in 1995.  He was named as driver in 2005 after working as a crew member.  He
It's an event that draws fans from all over California as it was a sell-out event, the 8th sell-out of the NHRA season.  That's no small number with a capacity at Sonoma Raceway of 47,000.  Records were broken in Sonoma as Doug Kalitta set a track speed record with a 332.26 mph run.  However, it would be California native Blake Alexander who would take his second Top Fuel victory out of six events he's competed in this year!  He claimed the victory with a 4.004-seconds at 287.41 Mph and in the process beat the winningest driver of all time, Tony Schumacher off the line who currently holds seven of the top 10 speeds ever run in Funny Cars.
This event isn't just about the Funny Cars and Top Fuel dragsters.  From early in the day, for three days, the weekend featured 12 classes of cars and bikes that burned out and launched into the future.  There is a fairly constant queue of cars and motorcycles being called to stage and run, one after another between qualifying and racing.  Frankly, all classes of drag racing machines are just as entertaining as the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories.  The multiple categories of drag racing are what drives the day and keeps cars at a constant pace up to the starting line.  Categories include, Pro Stock, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Top Fuel Harley.  In each category, results at one event impact future events and starting orders.  We have to admit we don't understand the drag racing points or bracket system, but that doesn't matter.  It's an automotive sport speaks to the senses of any gearhead providing a level of show that outweighs any need to know what's happening.  If you're reading this and you haven't seen a Top Fuel or Funny Car top 300 mph before you finish reading this sentence, then you owe to yourself to check it out at least once.  We constantly announce our inherent biases in preferences in motorsport genre, driver/team preference.  That we nerd out over one racing series over another is just a perk of having our own soapbox.  Having said that, many of the intricacies of NHRA racing remain mysteries to us, but that deficit has not diminished our infatuation with it, or our drive to make sure all of our followers experience an event no matter their level of snoot or bias in motorsport preference.
We watch a lot of racing, and stare and ogle many cars, from top end to the janky.  NHRA drag racing is a different automotive reality, one in which we still find ourselves awestruck.  Why would anyone strap themselves into one of these beast is beyond us, but we salute them all!
As you will find in our gallery we did our best to cover as much of the action and variety as possible.  Along with the racing action, we've also included images from a display of historic drag racing cars and a car show that are regularly part of the festivities.  With hardly any downtime throughout the day, and one group of cars just as entertaining as the next, it's not surprising this remains a sell-out event at Sonoma Raceway and a new fixture on our annual calendar of events.

Can you give a dog blackberries?
For those who don’t know what a legume is that’s Okay, either did I for a long time. Since you simply got him, it's going to take time to tame him down. A dog won’t wrestle to break down extremely saturated fat content material. Do be careful with the fat soluble vitamins, (A, D, E and Can Dogs have blueberries Ok). Because the 2/three rd of the fats is a beneficial fat which does not raise the LDL cholesterol, the fats in chocolate will not be harmful. I additionally eat dark chocolate way more often than before. Also, some types of grapes are more acidic then others. August 16th, 2015 at 7:35 am Fed a golden-retriever-cocker-spaniel combine (about sixty five lbs.) 7 or 8 grapes at breakfast one morning, then about 4 hours later determined to examine and pulled up this web site. Then again, one ought to by no means over-do the feeding. Feeding Canines: Wet Food versus Dry Meals, Which is Best?
Think about a cafe with actual food. Depending on the breed, some canine require a meat-heavy food regimen while others call for plant-based mostly food to fulfill their body’s nutritional necessities. Just lately, it is many extra food dyes that we proceed to use. In fact, blueberries are greater than secure on your dogs. They are additionally a supply of vitamins D, E, and K. They're also high in beta carotene, potassium, and fiber. Oranges are excessive in Potassium, vitamin C, folate and Thiamine. Cashews are packed with nutrients like calcium, magnesium, antioxidants, and proteins that will nourish your pup! Of course, this kind of fruit might be strongly beneficial for you. Thanks for the concept, I'll consider it. In reality, they’re one of the vital highest assets of weight loss plan Okay you’ll have the ability to devour! Learn what human foods are okay in your pet together with some recipes for healthy treats.
Really, a number of of the foods mentioned surprised me fairly a bit as I have seen individuals unknowingly feed them to their canines. Please test along with your vet earlier than giving your canine any foods you want. Giving her these as treats could contribute to well being problems. Because of this, you should peel the mango first earlier than giving it to your canine. Should you completely want to give your dog peach, be sure to solely give the outer layers of the fruit, as a result of cyanide can seep out from the pit into the meat near the center. When deciding what portion to give your dog, focus on her size. It’s a refreshing deal with you could safely give your canine especially through the warm summer time season. These fruits are already candy, so no want to give them artificially sweetened blueberries which can pose problems to your canine. You need not spend big dollars to preserve your doggie’s health.
They just need a quick washing and they’re able to go. As with another foods, verify the substances rigorously for ones which are dangerous to dogs. There are completely different cruciferous vegetables which are highly helpful for people. For us, fruits and vegetables are all the time wholesome, but that’s not the case for our dogs. However though grapes will also be dangerous for some canine particularly if they are little . Plus, these little jewels have been proven to enhance memory, forestall sure types of cancers and stop coronary heart illness. Asparagus doesn’t actually have any additional advantage on your dog and simply put, it's tough to eat it uncooked. It isn't recommended to often feed your canine peas, but it's secure in small amounts. I feed my dogs Nutro Extremely and Blue Buffalo. And different research have shown that canines with blueberries of their eating regimen have better blood sugar levels and cardiovascular health.Begin with very few blueberries first after which enhance the quantity if you find that your dog tolerates and eagerly eats them. It could be higher to give your buddy a few pear slices than to give it a complete pear since a dog will probably take the time to spit out the seeds. The blueberries you'll find strolling by means of your neighborhood Whole Foods and wild blueberries alike are identified for the polyphenol potency. By no means give your canine berries that are already outdated or moldy because it might probably lead to digestive upsets. Chocolate is one of the crucial dangerous foods that you may give a canine. Everybody on this universe loves animal like you might be serches about Can Dog Eat Blueberries. And one of the best solution to do that is to cease buying the crap they are selling. Then, spoon the banana mixture (ought to look mild) evenly into the molds in the same approach.
Tumblr media
Main meal fruits: Similar thought as the veggies! Veggies: Raw veggies have to be processed in a blender or meals processor for our dogs to have the ability to absorb the nutrients easily. Instead of snacking on chips and junk food- keep graham crackers, peanut butter, low fat cheese and and crackers together with recent fruits and veggies on hand for these 'snack attacks'. Carbohydrates work substitutes for fats and changing fats rich food with carbohydrate meals can enable you in weight reduction. Other than bloating, nuts can also cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even the formation of kidney stones. For unknown reasons, grapes can cause kidney failure in canine, so completely avoid this fruit. For these reasons, it is best to restrict your dog’s cottage cheese intake to 1 or two small spoonfuls per day or less. There are customary pointers, but at all times keep in mind that a dog’s nutritional requirements additionally differ from breed to breed.
However, it's best to restrict your dog’s peanut butter intake. Kale might be fairly powerful so it could be greatest for those who cooked it prior to serving. It could be better to give your buddy just a few pear slices than to give it a complete pear since a canine will possible take the time to spit out the seeds. The blueberries you will find strolling via your neighborhood Complete Foods and wild blueberries alike are recognized for the polyphenol potency. Then, spoon the banana mixture (ought to look light) evenly into the molds in the identical manner.
Primary meal fruits: Similar concept as the veggies! Veggies: Uncooked veggies must be processed in a blender or food processor for our canines to be able to absorb the nutrients easily. As an alternative of snacking on chips and junk meals- keep graham crackers, peanut butter, low fat cheese and and crackers along with contemporary fruits and veggies on hand for those 'snack attacks'. Carbohydrates work substitutes for fat and changing fat rich meals with carbohydrate food can show you how to in weight reduction. Forget Paint and Panel Gaps: This Challenger was Built to be Driven
Hot rodding at its very core was never about paint and panel gaps. It has always been, and will always be, fundamentally about working with what you have to make your car faster and better suited to fit your needs while also adding what style you can afford to along the way. The owner of this Challenger, Lee Evett, did just that with when he decided it was time to get his 1973 Dodge Challenger back on the road.
The car is far from perfect with the mismatched paint and primer as well as the “Dodge” emblem missing off the tail end of the car, but the fuel cell peeking out from under the rear sums it up perfectly – “Because Racecar.”
Starting from the beginning on the story — this Challenger was actually Lee’s very first car. He bought it in 2004 while living in Publo, Colorado. From the factory it, was equipped with a basic 318 small block mated to a TorqueFlite 904 with a slapstick shifter. It originally came with a coat of Ice Blue Iridescent paint but was painted white at some point during its life. While he was in school, the car lived a simple life as a daily driver karting him back and forth to work and school. Like it so often happens, life got in the way, and Lee moved to California abandoning the car at a friend’s place in Colorado for several years. By the time he managed to get the car to Los Angeles, it had dilapidated so much that Lee became discouraged about getting it back on the road. Life went on as it continued to sit. All the while, Lee was gathering parts, planning for the day that he would revive the car.
Instead of retaining the “sad mouth” grille of the 1973 Challenger Lee swapped in a split grill from a 1971 model because he liked it better.
Finally the day came when Lee made up his mind that it was time to free the car from purgatory. He started the revival the car on a shoestring budget. Lee planned to essentially copy another 318 build done by long time magazine contributor, Steve Dulcich, while going a little crazier on the cam spec. Starting with a different 318 small block that was bored 0.060 over for a final displacement of 328ci. He filled the block with Keith Black hypereutectic domed pistons mated with stock rods that ride on a factory crankshaft. ARP hardware holds it all together. He had an early set of hand-ported, J-casting heads he bought off of an old drag racer that were equipped with 2.02-inch intake and 1.60-inch exhaust valves, giving them the ability to flow more air than the stock engine could ever move. Garrick at Kelly’s Block Welding did all the machine work, decking the heads 0.010-inch to bump the compression slightly. He also surfaced the block, setting the deck height dead on zero, giving it a final compression ratio of 9.8:1.
The engine bay is not detailed to perfection, but the engine gleams against its black surroundings with aluminum valve covers and a pulley system contrasting against the Plum Crazy paint.
Lee chose a Comp’s XE274 camshaft that offers 230/236 degrees duration at 0.050, 0.488 / 0.491-inch valve lift on a 110-degree lobe separation angle. Comp’s billet double-roller timing set keeps everything in time. Ignition is handled by MSD’s 6AL digital box, a Pro-Billet distributor, a Blaster 2 coil, and plug wires. An Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake along with a Proform 750-cfm street series carburetor with the choke machined off was installed to direct air into the cylinders. Flowtech’s long tube headers with 1 7/8-inch primaries that collect into 2½-inch diameter exhaust tubing with two bullet mufflers that are dumped under the car allow the air to escape. An 18-gallon fuel cell was then mounted in the truck floor to deliver the elixir of horsepower to the engine via a Carter mechanical pump.
Horsepower guesses according to similar builds place this engine at right about 400 hp and somewhere around 380 lb-ft of torque at the crank. Upon assembly, Lee added a custom mix of single stage paint in a shade similar to that of the iconic Mopar color, Plum Crazy, and added a March billet aluminum serpentine belt system to dress things up. Funny enough, the original 904 transmission blew up the day after he bought the car in 2004, so it had a relatively low mile rebuild complete with a TransGo shift kit and a higher stall Hughes converter, so Lee just left it alone. The three-speed automatic directs power through a factory drive shaft to the stock Chrysler 8¾ rearend equipped with an open diff and a highway-loving 2.94:1 gear set.
You can see the Wilwood disc brake kit stealthily making its presence known behind the Cragar Soft 8 steel wheels, hinting that this car is meant to be driven hard.
The car had a mess of different components suspension components so Lee went with Firm Feel leaf springs and hangers that lower the car 1 ½ inch in the rear along with a solid rear sway bar from Firm Feel to hold things steady. For the front, it got new torsion bars, tubular upper a-arms, reinforced and plated lower control arms, a stitch-welded and gusseted K-member, and a tubular sway bar all from Firm Feel as well. The factory strut rods holding the lower control arm steady were swapped for heim-jointed units from Hotchkis, and Hotchkis-tuned APS Fox shocks were swapped onto all four corners. To stiffen things up even further the car had subframe connectors installed to tie everything together.
From the factory, these cars weighed in at a touch under 3,250 pounds, so to shave some of that weight off, Lee swapped the hood, deck lid, front and rear valences, and bumpers all for fiberglass components. Despite the lighter components, the car still weighs just over 3,000 pounds, so some stopping power was added in the form of four-piston, 12-inch Wilwood disc brakes with race pads in the front, while the rear retained the original 10 ½” drums all being worked by a manual dual pot master cylinder. The brakes were tucked behind a basic – yet classic – set of Cragar 17×9 Soft 8 steel wheels wrapped in budget Sumitomo 275 series tires on all four corners.
All this work was done in a time period of just seven months as Lee and his friends thrashed to get this car together and back on the road in time for the trip to Tucson for Roadkill’s Zip Tie Drags. Of course – just like any build – they ran into more than a few issues, and as a result, did not finish the car until 2:00 a.m. the morning of the cruise. The first test drive actually ended up being the cannonball down the freeway to meet everyone at the Irwindale Event Center for the trip across the desert with his friend Justin Groat riding shotgun. Much to Lee’s surprise, the car drove great, and they didn’t have any real issues arise. This car bombing across the desert was like a scene straight out of Vanishing Point, and other than some mildly toxic exhaust fumes getting into the cabin, the car made the 1,000 mile round trip to Tucson without a single hiccup, despite having virtually none of the gauges functioning properly.
Lee made a quick stop on the side of the road to give Lucky’s Fury Wagon a quick drink of fuel from the can he had in the trunk after Lucky somehow ran out of gas with a working gas gauge – Of course we snapped some photos in the meantime.
In its current state, the Challenger might have mismatched body panels and a little bit of bondo here and there, but the important thing is that this machine is back on the road and the owner is enjoying it. We think that’s what matters most. Future plans for the car include a focus on time attack racing. As a result the car, will get a full cage, a Tremec TKO600 five-speed trans, a torsion diff in the 8 ¾ rear end with steeper gears, a Racepak iq3s Street Dash, race buckets and harnesses, custom CCW Classic wheels, and possibly even a power adder. Lee told us, “It’s been around forever, and we’re still trying to get it further and further along. Yes, it has progressed slowly, but it’s one of those projects that will never be done.” While the idea may ruffle the feathers of more than a few Mopar fans, Lee never wants the car to be perfect because it will always be driven rather than babied, and we can’t help but respect that.
Lee’s friend Andreas Wennevold (You can find him @andreas_hoas_wennevold on Instagram) put together a rendering depicting the finished product that Lee had in his mind, and we think it looks just killer.

One Week With: 2016 Range Rover Sport SVR
LONG BEACH, California — Not too long ago you’d get laughed at for suggesting an SUV could post an 8-minute, 14-second lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Thanks to advances in modern technology, that’s not a joke, but rather the lap time posted by the Range Rover Sport SVR.
The level of effort on Land Rover’s part wasn’t even that significant, as the SVR is largely an aggressively tuned Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Chief among the changes is the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, which is upgraded to make 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. The extra 40 hp and 41 lb-ft are nice, but the exhaust fitted along with it is what makes everything come alive, particularly after you press the “make it loud” button on the center console.
To help manage the extra heat generated by the powertrain, the SVR is fitted with larger intakes in the front bumper, the only significant cosmetic change made; additional cooling for the six-piston Brembo front brakes that clamp down on 15.0-inch rotors is added as well. In fact, you have to look closely to see this is a special Rover. SVR badges are limited to one in the grille and one on the tailgate; the only other visual clues that there’s a steroidal engine under the hood are the rear spoiler, quad exhaust tips, and rear diffuser. It’s basically, dare we say, a sleeper.
Bury the throttle, however, and the whole neighborhood will know it’s not your banker’s Range Rover. The snarling fury intensifies rapidly as the tachometer climbs toward redline; the Sport accelerates just as rapidly, hitting 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds — before you brush that off as unimpressive, keep in mind that this is a 5,148-pound four-wheel-drive SUV that’s as capable off-road as any other Range Rover (just like you can’t have a poorly driving Porsche, you can’t have a Range Rover that can’t get dirty). The standard version doesn’t even come with summer tires, with Continental Cross Contact all-seasons being the rubber fitted to the stock 21-inch wheels. Check the box for the optional 22-inchers, though, and you’ll get Continental Sport Contact 5 performance rubber to go with them.
In normal mode, the SVR behaves largely like the RRS Supercharged, but with better baseline handling characteristics thanks to performance tuning for the air suspension, magnetorheological dampers, rear differential, torque-vectoring system, and active-roll-control system. Steering is revised as well, featuring additional weighting from the variable-ratio electric power assist system, while the eight-speed automatic returns shifts that are 50-percent quicker (it will also hold its gear through a corner and blips the throttle during downshifts).
In Dynamic mode, throttle response is sharpened, the exhaust crackles on throttle lift, and the gearbox will hold gears when shifted manually, bouncing off the rev limiter if you don’t shift up yourself, and downshifting only to prevent stalling. The combined aural experience makes the RRS SVR a hoot to blast from stoplight to stoplight. It’ll hustle through switchbacks respectably as well, but the level of fun to be had while hustling two-and-a-half high-riding tons of British luxury SUV through curves is limited. No matter how good an automaker’s engineers are, they can’t make the laws of physics take a time out.
Unlike the outside, the inside of the SVR looks and feels properly special. The carbon-fiber-trimmed, red-and-black two-tone interior makes for a sporty and youthful cabin fitting of a Range Rover custom ordered by a pro athlete. Front seats offer sporty levels of bolstering and will keep your torso in its appointed place should you decide to hit the canyons. The upholstery is part of the standard price, but the carbon fiber will separate you from an additional $2,300.
For those times when the V-8’s snarl is not the desired soundtrack, the optional 1,700-watt Meridian Signature audio system will fill your ears with as much aural pleasure as they desire — or blow your eardrums out, whichever comes first. It adds an eye-popping $4,450 to the price, so if you’re not an audiophile and are not paid like a European footballer, the standard 825-watt Meridian audio system will probably suffice.
The one area where the RRS SVR is truly lacking is presence. The need to maintain Range Rover’s signature off-road capability means an aggressive factory body kit wasn’t going to happen, and the subtle cosmetic modifications do nothing to make it stand out more than a standard Range Rover Sport. It’s up to you if this is a good or bad thing. Fortunately, there are plenty of aftermarket offerings out there to spice up your SVR if you so choose. Regardless, if you absolutely need to get through the OHV park as fast as possible, this Range Rover is an excellent choice.
